Purpose The purpose of this project was to investigate an ecosystem, recognize our human impact and create a solution. My groups focus was the coral reeves.
Concepts Global warming - Long-term rise in in average temperature of earths climate. Carrying cap - The quantity of organisms or things an ecosystem can sustain ably carry. Abiotic / Biotic - Non-living chemical and physical factors in an environment which effect ecosystems. Carbon cycle - The biochemical cycle by which carbon is exchanged among the biosphere. Nitrogen cycle - The biochemical cycle by which nitrogen is converted into multiple chemical forms. Water cycle - The movement of water between the earths oceans, atmosphere, and land. Individual biosphere - Coral reeves / The ocean Symbiosis (mutualism, predation) - Two species living in close proximity. Biomass - The total mass of organisms in a given area or volume. Food - Energy flow - Energy flows into an ecosystem, as a result of captured solar energy. Limiting factors - Water sanity, pollution, rising temperatures. Disturbance of home - A temporary change in environmental conditions that causes a pronounced change in an ecosystem. Biodiversity - The variety of life in an ecosystem.
Evidence of work
Reflection Overall I learned a lot from this project, and had a lot of fun learning about our topic. The pit of my experience with this project was the uneven workload in my group. Many members of my group would get distracted, creating problems with finishing on time. Another pit was problems with time management, we left a lot of work for the end of our work time, making finishing very stressful and rushed. The peek of this project was learning a lot about a topic i am very interested in. I loved learning the problem and creating a viable solution.
